     新年快乐

Happy New Year

Welcome everyone to the Year of the Rat.  Today it was fabulous to see students throughout the school embracing Chinese New Year and developing their understanding of this celebration.  Students were making connections between Chinese New Year and the way they celebrate New Year, and other festivals, in their culture.

Some students came dressed in traditional costumes and were proud to share information about their clothing.

Many classes completed pieces of artwork to display.

Finding out information about their own Chinese zodiac sign and replicating the relevant character was the goal for some students.

It was wonderful to see aspects of Chinese New Year becoming part of Poetry and Reading activities.

Now these can be shared with families to promote discussion and further learning.

Celebrating other cultures is important at C.P.D.S. because it helps us become tolerant and inclusive towards others. We learn that people might celebrate or behave in different ways and that is exciting.

Kind regards
