Fair Background

At Cornwall Park District School, we strive to provide the best learning opportunities and environment for our children.  This means that we have to top-up the official government funding we receive.  The Fair is our major source of supplementary funding, and it helps pay for the extra resources that enable our children to achieve the best that they can in an environment that is challenging, welcoming, up to date and comfortable.

Thanks to the support of our local and wider community, our Fairs have always been well attended and enjoyed by people from all over Auckland and beyond.  Through sheer hard work and the coming together of many great minds, our parents and students have put a huge amount of time and effort into presenting the best bargains, food, art and craft and bric-a-brac for you to enjoy.

The school is reliant on help from our community to ensure the fair is a success every year, and we are always in need of more volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more about how you might be able to help please email fair@cpds.school.nz or leave your contact details at the school office.

For new parents to the school, this is a great opportunity to meet other parents and get to network with an entirely new group of like-minded people and, in the process, be part of a fun filled and exciting event that will unite our school and community, and improve the facilities in which our children – your children – will learn.

Everything you need to know about the Cornwall Park School Fair!

The 2019 Cornwall Park District School Fair is 7th April  10-2 pm

This is the main annual fundraising event for our school. Each year a portion of the funds raised is put towards our specialist teachers. The Board of Trustees chooses a project for remaining funds to be put towards. This is announced each year in Term 1.

The Cornwall Park School fair has been an Auckland institution for many years as one of the largest school fairs in the country.  Each year we get more enquiries about it, and thousands of people travel from all over Auckland to attend.  Our last fair had 68 different stalls, with over 250 school families involved in running them as well as hundreds of generous contributors.

Each classroom becomes a stall, for such items as Baby gear/Soft Toys, Pre-school Toys, School Age Toys, Kids’ Books, Adults’ Books, Sweets, Cakes, Craft, Fabric, Jewelery, Preserves, Computers, Electrical, CD/DVD’s, China, Linen, Hats and Bags etc. Up in the junior quad is the international food court with 20+ stalls with wonderful hot, freshly made ethnic and traditional food and Quick-fire raffles. Down on the field are food and drinks including coffee, candy floss, hot chips and ice creams. On the lower covered courts is the huge White Elephant stall with the Garden and Plant stall nearby. The hall houses the huge pre-loved Clothing stall.

Absolutely! On the field we have Bouncy Castles, Coconut Shy, Rock Climbing, Petting Zoo, Face Painting, Dunking Machine and much more (each year brings more great ideas).  There are also raffles, Lucky Dips, and our fabulous Auctions.

The fair takes the whole of the first term to organise, with a truly astonishing collection of new and used donated goods from local businesses, families and friends being sorted each day by groups of fabulous volunteers inside a spare classroom. These are then stored away for Fair Day.  The Fair is coordinated by a committee who meet weekly in Term 1.

YES!! Any help is so much appreciated, and all donations. The more people who come along, the more fun it is and the less work for everybody.   Please contact a committee member as early as possible if you are able to help in anyway.  There are a variety of jobs to suit everyone’s commitments.  If you have any time during the week to help out at school or at home, please do contact us and we will be delighted to have you on a team. Or drop in and see us any morning in Room 30.  Throughout the term you’ll also receive weekly updates from the Fair Committee.

Fair weekend sees an all-out effort from as many people as possible, starting from Friday afternoon through Saturday when all the goods are moved to the stalls.  Nearly every classroom in the school becomes a stall. Your children are also busy on the Friday, clearing the way for all the goods.  Friday and Saturday are a great time for the Dads and Granddads to join the working party!  Come along and bring the kids in between their Saturday sports, they always have a blast with all their mates here too.

Planning is well underway. Please bring in all your empty jars, books, clothes, toys and surplus Christmas presents etc as soon as you can. Keep an eye on this page for special Saturday collection times, load up the car and drop your goods off at school.

Please note that there are some items we cannot accept.  These include analog TV’s, VCR players and videos, cassette tapes, toilet brushes, Gas BBQ cylinders and broken items.

Please send whatever items you can to school with your child, to their classroom. Donation points are awarded to each class for a weekly prize draw, and there is a Pizza Lunch for the 3 winning classes. PLUS each child who returns the tear-off portion of each weekly newsletter, signed to show it’s been read, goes into the weekly prize draw, one each for junior, middle and senior school.

If you have any questions at all or think that you (or your company) may be able to help in any way either before or on Fair day, please contact: Craig Anderson, ph 027 494 8346 fair@cpds.school.nz or Dawn Wood (Associate Principal) in person or ph 524 6574 at school. We will be able to answer any of your questions or just chat about the fair.
