Dear Parents and Caregivers

I am one of the  House Captains of Cornwall Park District School and I am writing to on behalf of the school leaders to inform you of our project in line with STEAM as well as responding to the needs of the community.  The house captains are planning on working together with Mr Mills and Mrs Singh to sew and supply masks to our local community.

As you probably all know, Covid-19 has affected people all around the world. New Zealand was actually quite lucky, considering other countries’ situations. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t struggling, and our community needs help. The world health organisation has recommended the use of masks throughout New Zealand. In response to the call by WHO and New Zealand government, we plan to sew the masks here in school, and distribute them around our community. We can do this, but we are going to need your support.

We were hoping that you, parents and guardians could donate or lend some of the supplies needed, Eg. fabrics or sewing supplies. Below are the details of what would be suitable.

     Fabrics:

  •     Cotton sheets
  •     Quilting cotton [100% cotton]
  •     Elastic
  •     Cotton T-shirts

      Sewing equipment:

  • Needles
  • Thread
  • Sewing machines
  • Iron
  • Ironing board [table top]
  • Scissors
  • Rotary board
  • Rotary cutter [to be used by adult]
  • Sewing ruler

Our target is to make 1,000 fabric masks for our neighbourhood.

If you think that you are able to donate or supply some of the things needed please contact either sophieloc@cpds.school.nz , dsingh@cpds.school.nz or smills@cpds.school.nz

Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

 Sophie Lochead  (House Captain).
