After an occurrence in Ellerslie yesterday that is being actively investigated by Police, we have…
I hope you all managed to have some well deserved family time during Queen’s Birthday weekend. This post includes information on:

Teacher Only Day Update
On Friday, teaching staff attended a joint Teacher Only Day at Auckland Normal Intermediate (ANI), with teachers from our Community of Learning that includes ANI, Maungawhau School, Epsom Normal Primary School, and Newmarket School. Our keynote speaker was Tim O’Connor (Headmaster of Auckland Boys Grammar School) supported by Sam McNaughton (Associate Headmaster), who spoke about the importance of Wellbeing at Grammar and what the school explicitly does to encourage both these in their boys. An interesting insight for all.
This session was followed by breakout sessions which encompassed many different aspects of learning, including, but not limited to; creativity, student wellbeing, critical thinking, social justice, citizenship and literacy.
Four of our own teachers ran sessions on topics that they are passionate about. Dev Singh and Vicki Brooke ran a session on ‘Team Building Challenges’ (to support a STEAM Programme), Adam Powell presented a session on ‘Unplugged Digital Technologies’, while Erin Lingard facilitated a session on ‘Learning Through Play’. I would like to recognise all the hard work that these teachers did to prepare and then present to their peers and I was very impressed and proud of each of them when I dropped into their sessions during the day. This shared Teacher Only Day provided a wonderful opportunity for teachers to learn from each other, as well as being able to connect with each other across schools.
I would also like to recognise Shanthan Naidu for all his contribution in organising the day along with fellow Associate/Deputy Principals from across the contributing schools.
These are taking place tomorrow from 1.30pm and Thursday from 3.20pm. I encourage any of you who may not yet have booked a session to do so (either face to face or virtually), as it is a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child(ren)’s progress and to see how you and teachers can work alongside each other to get the best results possible for your children. From Wednesday, we have a new teacher Mrs Supinder Kaur, joining us in Room 20. Currently, we have Adam Powell and Dev Singh sharing the class. Due to Dev wishing to reduce her hours for the remainder of the year, and the increasing demands of the eLearning and digital technologies on Adam, it was decided it would be beneficial for the children to have one teacher through to the end of the year. Supinder has been a reliever in our school and we look forward to her joining on a full time basis through to the end of the year.
I would also like to farewell Madeleine Urry (Rm5) who is leaving us today, for some well deserved rest before the arrival of her new baby-gender unknown! I would like to thank Maddy for all she has done while at our school and wish all the best to her and George for their upcoming exciting new adventure. Welcome also to Emily Strickett, one of our regular relievers, who will be teaching Rm 5 through to the end of the year.
Support Staff Week
This week is ‘Support Staff Week’ and it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge our Support Staff that includes our Office Staff, Learning Support staff, as well as our Property Staff. All these people play a vital role in the day to day operations of our school and directly or indirectly have an impact on the quality educational experiences our students have during their time here, so I would like to thank them all individually as well as a group for the great work they do. We are lucky to have you on our staff!!!
