Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

Thanks for the amazing response for the Wear a House T-shirt Day, now we have lots of lollies to make necklaces ready for the Fiesta.  It was a close competition! Congratulations Whakakotahi on being the winning house.  There are two more really fun ways to be involved in the Family Fun Fiesta, as part of this year’s Centenary celebrations. Please read the information below about FUN JARS, as we will collect these next Tuesday.  We would love to see as many and varied jars as we possibly can for sale on the day. Also, below is more information on the WHEELS PARADE, which will be our grand finale event at the Fiesta. This is a traditional feature of the CPDS old-time carnivals, and will be a lot of fun for all the children.

It’s time to get creative!

Fun Jars – a fun activity for the weekend!

A Fun Jar is a recycled jar or container (eg jam/honey jar) which children fill with ‘treasures’ from home. These ‘treasures’ can be anything your child wishes to contribute, so long as it fits within the jar.   Ideas for fillings include stationery, craft supplies, small cars, painted rocks, marbles, balloons, bubbles, wrapped sweets, stickers, dolls clothes, puzzles, beads etc etc. You are welcome to use your imagination! See the images for ideas to get you started.  Fun Jars will be on sale at the Fiesta for $2 a jar. There is no limit to how many jars your child can bring in!  Next Tuesday (23rd) the house captains will again be outside the office collecting the fun Jars and award tokens.  And again, the winning house will have 15 minutes extra playtime.

Please ensure jars are carefully cleaned out before they are filled, and they need a closed lid to keep the contents contained. Please also remind your child to be careful if they are bringing a glass or breakable jar.

The Grand Finale of the Family Fun Fiesta will be the WHEELS PARADE. This is a very traditional part of the old-time carnivals, where CPDS school children would dress up and decorate their bikes or dolls prams and join a parade around the field. There will be prizes up for grabs for creativity, best dressed etc. We encourage as many children as possible to get involved!  Our parade is not limited to bikes and dolls prams, rather anything on wheels can be included – bikes, scooters, roller skates, prams etc. The Parade will take place at the end of the Fiesta, at 1:45pm. Children are encouraged to bring their decorated wheels to the Fiesta with them, and park them up at the top courtyard, ready and waiting for the parade.  This is a really fun and traditional way for our CPDS children to celebrate the Centenary, so we really urge you to get involved, encourage your children to put in some effort, and to stay and celebrate this fun conclusion to the day.
