Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

Yesterday, at Cornwall Park District School we celebrated Chinese New Year or Spring Festival.  Throughout the school students embraced the traditions and concepts that underpin this celebration.

Some students wore traditional Chinese clothing to tell a story about their lives and history.

Many parents created food to bring in to celebrate with staff and students.  It was amazing seeing students try foods that were new to them, or attempting to use chopsticks for the first time!

Some classes produced works of art.  We have lanterns, ox plates and calligraphy throughout the school.

Giving positive messages in lucky hong bao envelopes was a popular activity – sorry we cannot give lollies or money at school!

We completed the day with an assembly where some students performed and a professional musician came to share her knowledge of traditional Chinese wind instruments.  What an amazing experience.

Thank you for helping us celebrate Chinese New Year at CPDS.  We look forward to many more cultural events in 2021 to support and involve our community.

This wonderful summary of events was compiled by Lisa Rolle, and I would like to thank her and Wendy Wang for all the wonderful work they did behind the scenes to ensure this was a wonderful experience for all.

Kind regards
Janine
