Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

Sorry for a delayed blog, however, the term just seemed to have got a lot busier. This is evident from the number of events happening last week.  On Wednesday our Boys Choir, String Ensemble, Chamber Group and Senior Ukulele group took part in a Performance Trip on Wednesday.  They visited the elderly at Karetu House, Elizabeth Knox home and Cornwall Park Hospital and performed a variety of items for them.  By all accounts they were enjoyed by all. Well done to all the parents who assisted on the day as well as Linda Yu for all her work with these groups.

Mathex

Last Thursday, 14 students competed in the Remuera Mathex competition.  Mathex is a speed maths problem solving group competition, and CPDS entered 3 teams:
1 year 5 team, and 2 year 6 teams.
We also had the great support of a reserve for each team. Thanks to Mac and Oscar for being such great team players.
As the competition is always fierce, our teams did lots of trialling and practicing during Term 3.  This paid off, as on the night they did incredibly well. The Year 5 team of Oscar, Zanlin, Lucian and Summer came 4th out of 25 teams -answering the 20 questions correctly in less than the allocated 30 minutes.
The year 6 teams also did really well- Their competition had even more teams (32-35 of them) and Max, Sophia, Miqi and Andrew were extremely proud of themselves, also coming in 4th.
Our 2nd Y6 team of Josh, Maskil, Rosa and Yen Cheng scored a very creditable 95/100  and were holding their own until 1 question near the end which proved tricky! Nonetheless, it was as usual, a loud, exciting and fun event for all involved. A huge thank you to all the parents and Mrs Patel, who came along to support our teams. Plus a huge thank you to Jan for helping Ms Hooper with the practices.
Gymnastics

Last Thursday our gymnastics team also competed in the Auckland ‘Champions of Champions’ competition. This is a competition for gymnasts who have excelled in their local zone competitions. We took 12 gymnasts who had all competed well in our Remuera Zone competition in August. The standard of gymnasts was extremely high with lots of talent from all over Auckland. Whilst our team didn’t get any placings it was a great experience and everyone was happy that they performed the very best that they could on the day.

A big thanks must go to all of the parents who have helped with our teams this year, and Mr Campbell for training them.

Our gymnastics sessions will continue again next term (Wednesday 8:00-8:30am) and are now open to any Year 3 children who would like to give gymnastics a go.
