Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

I know when you employ good people their skills are going to be sought after by others and the opportunities they are offered are sometimes too good to ignore. That is the case with three of our staff who have informed me that they will be leaving at the end of the Term.

Caitlin Williams R6, is travelling to America to teach, Annabel Rollinson Rm 23, has decided to join her partner in England and Shona Tames R8, has decided to leave teaching and return to her inital profession of Midwifery.

I am sure you are aware that Auckland is currently suffering from a shortage of teachers.  To date, we have been very fortunate filling all positions we have had available, however, I need to be honest and let you know that this shortage is starting to affect our school as well.  This term, we have already been unable to fill a fixed term position we advertised, resulting in us having to step back from offering some extra opportunities for our children. It is also harder than normal to find teachers to start up our New Entrant classes, as we progress through the year.

Because of these challenges we are investigating some creative ways to promote ourselves as a great place to teach and as we speak, some of our students are creating a short movie to do this.

What I urge you to do is spread the word along with this movie, through your social networks, so as many people as possible become aware that our great school is looking for some great teachers.

I will send the link out to our adverts and movie on Monday (as an alert to everyone), so please keep an eye out for it.

I would also be interested in any ideas you have of any other creative ways we may attract great people to our school.

Thanks in advance for your assistance in this.

Janine
