As the school year draws to a close, I would…
The staff in our school often go above and beyond what is normally expected to ensure your children get the best opportunities they can. One example of this is during our annual Fair. Every year, full and part time teachers, support staff, relievers, leadership and their families come together and give their time to help make the fair a success, as this is a very tangible way they feel they can give back to the community that supports them.
Next Friday, you will find them here after school into the evening as well as on Saturday setting up, and then they come in for the whole of Sunday for the actual Fair itself. In addition to this we still have a number of past staff and families who come a give us a hand as well. Please know that staff do not get a day in lieu for this work; this is purely voluntary.
We really want to sincerely thank from the bottom of our hearts, all those wonderful people who have already signed up to help with the fair; however, unfortunately we are still short in a number of stalls.
This means teachers are now having to take on extra responsibilities like running stalls just to make sure our fair can still go ahead – but they can’t do it all on their own.
Over the years the proceeds from our school fair have directly provided:
-the school pool that our children and families use every year, while so many schools don’t have pools at all anymore
-the parkour playground that our Year 5/6 children love
-the cultural garden that is used daily by so may children for learning and play
-the Discovery Centre that allows our children to cook, invent and explore and we have so many more ideas on how we can utilise this space to facilitate children’s learning
-the new space under Room 27 that will be used as a break-out room for smaller group learning/support
–more teachers than what the government pay for each year allowing our children to receive more specialised sports and music teaching and extra support for learning needs
This list only highlights some of the things that past Fairs have provided for our children and community. In reality, the benefits extend beyond what is listed, as the fair has been going on for many decades.
All we ask is for an hour or two of your time on either Friday after school, during Saturday 9-4pm and/or during the Fair on Sunday 9am-4pm to help with the set-up, during the fair and for cleaning up. It would be great to have enough people giving an hour on the day as this would allow us to let some of our helpers have a break during the day to see what else is happening at the Fair beyond their own stall.
So, if you can give your teacher a hand and haven’t already signed up to give your time over the Fair weekend, please sign up on the fair page on the school website, or let your child(ren)’s teacher or the office know ASAP.
If just one adult from every family volunteered an hour or two of their time it would make a HUGE difference, so please, please, please consider helping.
The more hands helping the less work for all.
