Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

Traditionally students in Years 5 and 6 have had the opportunity annually to attend a residential Camp over 2 nights where a range of outdoor activities are offered as part of our outdoor education curriculum. We are aware that payment cannot be enforced , however, the reality is that unless parents pay the associated cost we would not be able to continue to have camps in the future. This year with Year 5 and 6 composite classes we had all children across both levels attend camp. The school is very aware of how much it costs families for their children to attend these camps and we are at the point now where we need to finalise our bookings for the 2018 year. Before doing so, we wanted to provide families with the opportunity to feedback on whether they would support an annual camp continuing. The cost of a 3 day camp is around $200 which includes 2 nights away. A big portion of the costs relate to contracting trained instructors for the activities. This ensures that we can offer challenging activities knowing we have the level of expertise/experience required.

As an alternative we could have a camp one year and another option the following year e.g. Marae visit, or we can continue having a camp each year with different activities being offered each year. Another option is we have an annual camp and alternate the site we visit. e.g. Shakespear one year and Hunua the next.
