Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

My name is Carmen Burns. I live locally and have taught at Cornwall Park School for over 20 years. I am delighted to say that both of my children are ex pupils who have gone on to have highly successful careers. Thus I have a strong professional and personal interest in the school. Although my university studies were in science, I moved into education and have been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach all levels in primary and intermediate school. At Cornwall Park School, I have worked from new entrants to Year 6, both as a classroom teacher and as a syndicate leader. As a Year 5/6 teacher, I have choreographed and taught dance, participated in the Waterwise programme, co-produced and made costumes for school productions, during my time at the school. It is a pleasure and privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to a school that encourages students to work to be the best they can be, and also actively teaches the social values that are embodied in our dispositions. You might ask what is the best part? My students – who inspire me daily with their courage and enthusiasm.
