Whakapau kaha – to be better than before.

Open Day

Yesterday, Kowhai Team had an open afternoon, where families were invited to come along and work alongside their children during their ‘Discovery Time’.  It was great to see so many different activities on offer and the children were obviously so pleased to have their parents share a part of their school day.

Student Led Conferences

It was also really great to see so many parents coming along to the Student Led Conferences yesterday afternoon.  Earlier in the day, I spoke to Mischa, Emily, Kate and Miqi from R15 who came down to show me their portfolios that they intended to share.  They were bursting with pride when I asked them what they intended to talk about with their parents, and without fail, they all wanted their parents to see how much they had improved during the year and Mischa also shared how she wanted her parents to know that she was able to finish tasks much more consistently than when she started in the class in February.

It is so powerful for children to share their challenges and successes to the people they love and that is why we try and provide a balance between teacher led and student led opportunities through each year. We have one parent led session at the beginning of the year, one teacher led in Term 2, and a student led session in both Term 3 and 4.

I do want to stress to all parents, that you do not have to wait for the formal timeslots to make a time to connect with your child’s teacher. If you have any concerns or need to know more about anything at anytime during the year, the teachers are always happy to discuss how things are going.
